iPhone 5 to get iOS 5 GM starting Sept. 23rd, says analyst

Apple is set to release the 'golden master' build of iOS 5 to iPhone 5 manufacturers abroad this month, an analyst has revealed.

Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities has told Apple Insider the software is likely to be handed over in the week starting September 23rd, so that assemblers can begin installing it on the handsets and start shipping them out for an imminent launch.

'Golden master' is the term Apple uses for release candidate software that is usually indistinguishable from final build available to the public once any last minute bugs and glitches have been ironed out.

iOS 5 is currently in its seventh beta with developers working around the clock to get it ready for a release in the coming weeks. Although the Cupertino has not so much as confirmed a new handset, if the recent flood of rumours are anything to go by an announcement may just be around the corner with a possible mid-October due date.

Features mooted to be on board the fifth-gen kit include a larger, four-inch display, a dual core A5 processor (same as the iPad 2), a slimmer design and possibly an eight-megapixel camera.
