Rumour: iPhone 5 announcment incoming in ‘next week or two’

Hot on the heels of news that retailer Best Buy is prepping for the imminent launch of the iPhone 5, an anonymous tipster from another ‘mobile phone store’ has claimed that its staff are also being trained up to showcase the ins and outs of the handset to customers.

The tech deepthroat who informed CNET UK of behind-the-scenes developments revealed that employees of the undisclosed store have already been briefed at a “staff training event”, going as far as to say that the handset will feature a four-inch display and a 1.5GHz processor.

"They also said an announcement will be made in the next week to two weeks, and they won't start stocking it until very late 2011 or early 2012," the source added.

The CNET folk themselves don’t seem to be buying into it much, believing that the timeframe is largely speculation rather than actual, bona fide knowledge of Cupertino’s plans.

What’s more, it does seem a little convenient that the gen showed up just as reports of Best Buy is readying for the hotly awaited event on October 21st cropped up all over the web. As is customary with rumours, a healthy serving of sodium is highly recommended.
